Paffett takes victory and points lead

Postby Frozen_pea » Mon 20 Jul, 2009 8:58 am

Gary Paffett took a comfortable second DTM win of the season at Zandvoort to move himself into the lead of the championship.

The 2005 champion shadowed pole-sitter Oliver Jarvis in the early stages of the race, but seized the lead after the Audi driver took a trip through the grass on lap 14.

Four Audi drivers have been excluded from Sunday's DTM race at Zandvoort due to infringements that occurred after the race.

Alexandre Premat and Timo Scheider - who finished fourth and eighth respectively - were penalised because they took too long to turn up to be weighed after the race, with officials describing their lateness as "significant".

Markus Winkelhock, who finished sixth after an impressive charge from 12th on the grid, did not have the required one kilogram of fuel remaining in his car at the end of the race, which led to his exclusion.

Kolles driver Christian Bakkerud failed to show up to be weighed at all after the race, which made him the fourth driver to feel the wrath of the stewards on Sunday evening.

Unfortunately didn't happen.
I imagine in private they have been told not to do it again. It was the actions of Audi drivers that brought the rule of no team orders into DTM.
IIRC a driver in a year old car was about able to take a maiden victory and slowed on the last few laps to allow an Audi driver challenging for the championship through.

Can't remember the drivers names, sure I'll remember later.

Definitive Zandvoort result won’t be announced before 31st July

The results of the DTM round held at Zandvoort, Netherlands, on 19th July will remain provisional until 31st July. In the meantime, DMSB has checked the data recordings of Audi drivers Mattias Ekström, Oliver Jarvis and Alexandre Prémat and will offer the teams and drivers involved the chance of commenting on the gathered data on the day prior to the race at Oschersleben.

Due to the appearance of doubts regarding the regular course of several overtaking manoeuvres in the closing stages of the race, the stewards opted for suspending the official result and having all the relevant data analysed extensively. The reason for the examination is the accusation of team order that is forbidden according to paragraph 20.2 of the DTM regulations. To find out the truth, the DTM experts checked data such as speed, acceleration, deceleration and the radio communication with the drivers involved as well as the TV pictures and lap times.
