F1 Calendar 2016!

Postby AlesiFan » Thu 30 Apr, 2015 1:03 pm

Given F1's inability to organise a p1ss up in the proverbial and the calendar not usually being finalised until after the season has started (see the German Grand Prix, or rather don't) this should probably be taken with a large pinch of salt.

However seems quite big changes could be on the cards. And Oz have confirmed their race won't be until April next year.

At least Italy is still on there. I thought Bernard might have got rid of it a year early to fit a race in Kazakhstan.

And at least the first race is in Melbourne!

methinks lots of politics to go on before this is finalised. jimbob allen was saying that singapore don't want a back to back with sepang and given their clout with the hobbit they will probably get their way. he thinks maybe the sepang race will move back to it's original slot in october.

jimbob (who is well connected in italy)he also says their are rumours connecting mugello to f1.

That provisional calendar is definitely a political move. There are two theories behind it.

1) By launching a 21 race calendar (the teams won't let the season expand beyond 20 races) it says that at least one race has to be dropped. By releasing the calendar early it is giving the at risk races (namely Germany and Italy) notice that they need to act to secure their races whilst giving them time to do something about it.

2) The FIA do though want to expand the season beyond 20 races. By giving a potential 21 race calendar that doesn't start until April it is demonstrating to the teams that there is scope for extra races.

The FIA have officially published the provisional calendar for next season and it is the same as in the initial post.

I thought there was no money for the German race? Has Uncle Bernie given then the race for free?

I think the problem this year was the Nurburgring couldn't afford it and Hockenheim have budgeted for a race every 2 years so couldn't step in ... It was Hockenheims turn on the rotation next year anyway.

Cheers for that. The question now I suppose will be if Hockenheim will take it on every year. A mate of mine was there last year and he said it was great (apart from being a lot warmer than he expected!). But the best thing he said was it was easy to get food and drink and around the track because there was bugger all people there. Good news for him getting to the bar - not so good news if you are trying not to lose money running a race I would have thought.

Been there 3 times Ali, great atmosphere in the campsite (good bar there as well) and never had any problem getting food & drink even during Schumi's heyday, we always sat in the main stand, normally the north end, every stand has a bar behind it selling both food and drink & you get a refund if you take the bottles back.

More calendar changes.

It seems Singapore and Malaysia are not happy with being on consecutive weekends. It is being suggested that Abu Dhabi might move in December with Malaysia moving to Abu Dhabi's current date in late November. Belgium, Italy and Singapore might all move back a week to close up the gap left by Malaysia moving and to give a longer summer break.

The revised schedule appears to be.

1 April 3 Australia
2 April 10 China
3 April 24 Bahrain
4 May 1 Russia
5 May 15 Spain
6 May 29 Monaco
7 June 12 Canada
8 June 26 Britain
9 July 3 Austria
10 July 17 Europe (Azerbaijan)
11 July 31 Germany
12 August 7 Hungary
13 August 28 or September 4 Belgium
14 September 4 or 11 Italy
15 September 18 or 25 Singapore
16 October 9 Japan
17 October 23 USA
18 October 30 Mexico
19 November 13 Brazil
20 November 27 Malaysia
21 December 4 or 11 Abu Dhabi

More changes. It seems teams do not want the season to extend into December and they want the summer break to stay at 4 weeks. The solution, start the season in March as usual.

The current calendar is now.

1 March 20 Australia Melbourne
2 April 3 Bahrain Sakhir
3 April 17 China Shanghai
4 May 1 Russia Sochi
5 May 15 Spain Barcelona
6 May 29 Monaco Monte-Carlo
7 June 12 Canada Montreal
8 June 19 Azerbaijan Baku
9 July 3 Austria Red Bull Ring
10 July 10 Britain Silverstone
11 July 24 Hungary Hungaroring
12 July 31 Germany Hockenheim
13 August 28 Belgium Spa
14 September 4 Italy Monza
15 September 18 Singapore Marina Bay
16 October 2 Malaysia Sepang
17 October 9 Japan Suzuka
18 October 23 USA Austin
19 November 6 Mexico Mexico City
20 November 13 Brazil Interlagos
21 November 27 Abu Dhabi Yas Marina
