Monza circuit changes for 2017

Postby NewMrMe » Fri 02 Sep, 2016 9:01 pm

I had missed this news until it was mentioned in practice today. They are planning on changing the Monza layout for next year. They will get rid of the first chicane and change Curva Grande.

The changes are in response to Monza being dropped from the World Superbike calendar this year due to safety concerns. There are worries about how safe the first chicane is for bikes, but without the chicane the run off at the Curva Grande is insufficient. The barrier on the corner cannot be moved back as there is a road, so the corner is to be moved inwards. Apparently the circuit did look at having separate bike and car layouts but decided to go for one circuit that would be suitable for both.
