TRACY NOT AMONG THE 32 DRIVER LIST SO FAR

Postby Pepper » Fri 18 Apr, 2008 7:16 pm

The initial entry list for this year's Indianapolis 500 has been released and it shows a total of 32 drivers for 39 cars which have been entered as of April 11 for the 92nd running of the event.

The 32 drivers is seven more than were listed on last year's initial entry list and includes three former 500 champions - Helio Castroneves, Buddy Rice and Dan Wheldon.

Team Penske has entered three cars for Castroneves, Ryan Briscoe and an unnamed No. 77 entry, which is being held for Sam Hornish Jr, who left to join the NASCAR series in 2008. Team officials say its unlikely Hornish will take part as the Sprint Cup series is set to race in North Carolina that same day but the option is there for him.

Should Hornish Jr. not fill the seat, its possible another former Penske driver could find his way into the 500 lineup. Paul Tracy, who drove for Penske in the CART series, has made no secret of desire to return to race at the speedway and with a competitive team.
