Long Beach, Toronto join IRL schedule for 2009

Postby CrazyChick » Thu 31 Jul, 2008 12:36 pm

By Steven English, Thursday 31st July 2008

The former Champ Car events at Long Beach and Toronto will join the 18-race IndyCar Series schedule next season.

This year's calendar featured Champ Car's Edmonton round, which will continue next year, but the addition of two more street races brings the series to a 10-8 split between ovals and circuits.

The Nashville Superspeedway is the only race on the 2008 calendar to lose its place next year.

The season will open on the streets of St Petersburg, with the Long Beach Grand Prix retaining its traditional April date and hosting the second round. Toronto slots in between Watkins Glen and Edmonton in July, creating back-to-back races in Canada.

The race at Motegi will move from its regular April slot to September to hold the penultimate race, with the season concluding at Homestead-Miami in October. And the Mid-Ohio round has moved a month later, from July to August, to avoid a run of six consecutive racing weekends...........

I had forgotten all about Rockingham until you mentioned it there Pepper!

Then when I visited their home page I found out I wasn't alone. :lol)

don't get Rockingham confused with the one in the states

if they were going to return to the Rock it would be to the one in North Carolina

The british Rock has never hosted IndyCar and hopefully never will

Pikes Peak reopned last month and look for that to return in 2010

Sad to see Nashville gone and the addition of yet more half arsed road/street courses

Thanks Stradders, I do know my Rockinghams though.

Why do you dislike our Rockingham? I understand things did not go well in the past, but if that were sorted, would you not want racing there?

it just won't create good racing and also the teams don't need another fly away trip with the money problems at the moment

half the reason Surfers was dropped was because of expense, the trip to Motegi, Japan is funded by Honda...................if you look at Motegi's race result this season you'll see American-Japanese driver Roger Yasukawa raced as a one off, that team, it's travelling fee's and other expense all came from Honda

If the series becomes more secure then maybe a trip to the Rock could be on but at the moment it's not the direction it needs to take

Unless a British engine maker starts supplying the league!
