Raikkonen crashes out of Mexico...

Citroen Junior Team driver Kimi Raikkonen has crashed out of Rally Mexico close to the finish of the final gravel stage of day one.

The Finn rolled his C4 WRC off the road a mile from the end of the second run through the El Cubliete test. Initial reports suggest it was a substantial crash, with the car rolling six times. Both Raikkonen and his co-driver Kaj Lintstrom were uninjured in the accident, but the C4 is said to be destroyed.

Raikkonen's first day on gravel in a World Rally Car has been eventful, with a bent steering arm spoiling the first stage and an electrical fault costing him 20 minutes on the second test. He then posted the fifth fastest time, just 0.9 seconds slower than the fastest time on his first ever asphalt WRC test, the Coca-Cola Street Stage.

The first two stages of the afternoon were also better with eighth and ninth quickest times on gravel before his accident.

Not the best start, however does this means he will be 'available' to attend the 2010 F1 season opener in Bahrain. To commemorate the sixtieth year of F1 all F1 champions still living are due to attend and drive some of their winning machinery, all bar two of the surviving Champions have agreed to attend, Piquet Snr and Kimi.

Did I spot Snowey in a bikini near to the site of Kimi's crash? Perhaps he wasn't watching the road  Incidentally, where is he now? Funny he hasn't been seen since the bikini/ crash incident...

Well If he has any gratitude he will attend Bahrain, regardless od why he left it would be a bloody cheek if he doesn't, especially if we then see him angling for a return to F1 in 2011.

Kimi may have crashed out but he's in good company...

At the first stage today we have:-

Sordo... smashed wishbone...

Wilson... one wheel on the road after carrying on rather than taking a corner and going into a ditch....

Block... broken suspension....

Going amazingly well is Mr Loeb and Mikko and Jari Matti starting to make up time on all except Loeb...

Petter suffering as he's first on the road...

because he is ungrateful for what F1 did for him, that would be the only reason not to attend.
