ITV: Fernando At Fault For 4th Place

The Spanish media came up with more conspiracies but Fernando says it was his car changes.

Fernando Alonso admitted changes made prior to his car prior to qualifying didn’t work as planned after his title hopes took a blow after he only managed to qualify fourth in Brazil.

The world champion will line up two places behind McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton for Sunday's race and now faces an uphill challenge to claim three points more than him if he is to hold onto his championship crown.

Alonso had been as low as fifth on the Q3 timesheet up until his final run and conceded a place on the second row was far from ideal.

“Obviously I would have liked to be on the front row, but it was not to be," he said.

“We made some changes to the car for qualifying but unfortunately they didn’t work as well as we thought they would and as a result I was not totally confident with the car."

However the Spaniard is too experienced a campaigner to give up on his title dreams yet and says the previous race shows that nothing can be taken for granted in Formula 1.

“However as we have seen in China a lot of things can take place during a long race, so we will have to wait and see what happens tomorrow," he said.
