Can kovi Take his maiden Win...?

Postby CrazyChick » Sat 05 Jul, 2008 4:24 pm

After Heikki's strong showing in Quali, does he have the car and the pace to out fox the rest of the field and the weather to take his maiden win...

If the weather is kind to his strategy, he has a great chance as the ferrari's seem to be missing something this weekend...

I think he can.

McLaren seems to be the car to have this weekend. There does not appear to be a lot between him and Hamilton on pace. As long as he can hold the lead at the start he should run and hide in the early stages. I do think he is the lightest car on the grid though. His Q4 time was only 1.4 off his Q2 time. He was the only driver within 1.7 seconds off what they did in Q2.

If the reason for Hamilton's time in Q3 is because he is significantly heavier then Kovalainen then he is still in with a shout. If this is the case Kovalainen needs a good start as he needs to pull a gap in the early stages.

Being light though could have risks as the weather may be changeable. The larger pit window a driver has the more chance they have of making a stop to change between dry and wet tyres tie in with a fuel stop. The worst case scenario would be if the weather changed just after he pitted.

On the strategy front it looks like Ferrari have covered both bases. It seems as though Raikkonen is light and Massa is heavy. If the weather plays a part a scuppers one car then the other should be okay.

yep. :D

im not sure kimi is light tbh - the gap to massa may be more to do with his silverstone ability with a car which isn't quite where they want it? >?:PLO

but if webbo stays ahead of kimi at the start heikki has a great chance.

course rain mixes it up completely. :lol)

I might try doing something similar. I'm sure I must have made at least one post out of 13,000 odd that I've predicted something right >?:PLO

I can recall predicting Giancarlo would be 2007 WDC. I got that wrong big style :)

I did predict that Webber would win a race before Rubens this season :winner:

I suppose the question as far is this thread is concerned is now that Heikki has got his maiden win out of the way, will he ever win again >?:PLO

Well that depends very much on if he stays at McLaren or joins a race winning team.

I'm pretty sure Heikki has talent - he has shown flashes of it over the last two and a bit seasons - it's maybe the whole mental side of it he struggles with - certainly being team-mate to the Chosen One can't be easy. >?:PLO

Maybe in a new environment?
I still remember people saying Rubens F1 career was over. In 1996. :lol)
