Suzuki pulls out of the WRC

Suzuki has decided to pull out of the World Rally Championship with immediate effect due to the world's financial crisis.

"In responding to the contraction of the automotive sales caused by recent global economic turmoil, Suzuki has been promptly taking possible countermeasures including the reassessment of its global production output," said the Japanese car maker in a statement.

"The company, however, foresees the shrinking trend in longer periods of time rather than a short-term phenomenon.

Heard on the radio Subaru were pulling out now too which is surely more serious? :shock:

I find the Subaru withdrawl quite dreadfull news ......

I cannot think of another car manufacturer than has changed peoples perception of their products by active competition as much as Subaru has, both Richard Burns & Colin Mcrae won British open title's & World Championships in Legacys & Impreza's respecitively ....

Also I think they were a very well supported Rally team which is rather odd when most fans support a driver.....

I really feel the departure of Subaru & to a lesser extent Suzuki is the final nail in the coffin for the WRC....

Also where does Petter Solberg go now ...a man of his talent cannot sit on the sidelines for long

was reading dieter rencken's piece over at autosport earlier and he feels the wrc hasn't helped itself with the calendar.

no rally in europe's largest car market (germany), no rally in france, no rally in japan......
